News Article about Rape Victim in Morocco

This is the article I mentioned in class when discussing the consequences of extremely male biased gender ideologies.

  1. I agree that the Moroccan society failed this poor young girl. Not only being sexually assualted, she was also forced into a marriage that was of no interest to her. I could not image the pain and betrayal she felt from not only her attacker but from her own family. Yes, rape could be deemed "shameful" in some societies however the victim did not actively participate. They were forced! While the loophole exist in their law, the judge should be barred from any future legal proceedings and the families of both the victim and attacker shamed. May this poor girl rest in peace. She is free at last.

  2. When I read the article, I was shocked and felt terrible for this young girl. I do not understand that societies in certain cultures do not grasp the concept that rape is forced upon the women and it is not their choice. Therefore, they should not be punished because they have suffered enough. I was surprised that she was forced into a marriage with her attacker. Overall, I found the article very informative.

  3. I remember hearing about this article and some of the responses from different people throughout my circle. It's terrible that a girl has to go through something like this, and of course we see the consequences of this type of action. Imagine having to wake up to someone that you couldn't trust, especially since in that culture how submissive the female needs to be to the husband. I can't believe her parents were willing to put their 16 year old girl in that situation just to save a man from prison... I wonder if this story is going to continue and if action is going taken on the rapist.

  4. Sexually assulted and forced into an unwanted marriage, the Moroccon society seemed to not meet the needs of this girl. Having to live your life with the person who assulted you and seeing them every morning when you wake up...not okay. I don't see how the judge thinks any of this is okay and forces her to marry.
