I believe the susto disease is a way for the natives to explain a sickness. Current medical knowledge is not known in the area. The idea of susto has a religious origin as well since it is considered to be a loss of soul. Problems with susto is that it is not medically correct. When someone is actually stricken with a sicknessn or disease, the person is diagnosed with susto and it is left alone. This could be bad for the patient and possibly the rest of the population. The sickness would not get treated and kill the person or spread and affect others.
